We are proud to be hosting a Festival of Football supporting Cancer Research UK in memory of Ray Barlow over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd May 2010. Ray Barlow was heavily involved with our younger players who just starting out in football. Tragically Ray passed away in January 2006 after a short battle with cancer. However the aggressive nature of the cancer shocked us all and Ray is still greatly missed by all at the club. The Festival of Football has been arranged to remember Ray, his love of football and to showcase the skills of young footballers that Ray would have been so keen to see develop. We also aim to raise funds for Cancer Research UK to help fight the ongoing battle with this devastating disease. It is hoped that all the players will wear a pink ribbon on their arm provided by Cancer Research UK which will be handed out at time of teams registering. Supporters will be encouraged to purchase a pink ribbon on the day and will be asking for a £1.00 voluntary contribution per ribbon. You may wish to donate more if you so wish. There will also be collection buckets available on the day for you to dispose of your loose change. All of this money collected on the day will be donated direct to Cancer Research UK. Furthermore, from the profits of the weekend activities Coalpit Heath FC wull donate a minimum 10% to Cancer Research UK, the clubs chosen charity. The centre piece of the weekend is a Coalpit Heath XI versus a celebrity / ex pro's XI. This match will be played on the Saturday afternoon and it is hoped that this match will become an annual event. This is a ticket only event and tickets will need to be purchased in advance. Please ask for further details. The club wishes to reiterate that the event is not a tournament. It is intended that all players play in a relaxed atmosphere and they are encouraged to show off their footballing skills. All teams will play the same number of matches. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact Jerry Kinsman on 07812 045259 or email the club at info@coalpitheathfc.org.uk
